Whimsy, Illustration, and Clay

Nostalgia, much like other disillusioned adults, is a big part of my life. Waking up and creating everyday sounds ideal when you ignore the massive mental load it takes to get the job done. Granted, I love what I do, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want a break every now and then. To recharge, I do a lot of scrolling (sometimes of the doom variety) but I tend to follow likeminded creators so my fyp leans on the artistic side, thankfully. Let me share one of my favorite finds:

Crisppyboat!

Found on Instagram, his work consists of 3D rendered illustrations that mimic the look of claymation. "His style is perfect for those looking for something unique..." -from his 'About Me' page on his website. I couldn't agree more. Fun, colorful, and dynamic; his work truly encompasses the love for animation. Above you'll find his rendering for Courage the Cowardly Dog, one of my favorite shows growing up and still holds a special place in my heart. His work spans video games, TV shows, and movies from indie to widely known. A scroll through his Instagram page will be worthwhile for everyone.

I love the pieces he's done based off my favorite game, Animal Crossing, so much so that I've used them as backgrounds for my phone for months. His creative composition with simplifying characters and environments really makes his art feel homey and comforting. His use of texture when animating his artwork makes an incredibly successful clay look and feel.

There's a lifeforce to his work that is mesmerizing, it really feels like he captures the personality of the characters he depicts in a way that honors the original work. The consistency of his work is another triumph, going through his Instagram, you can see his style develop over time to what it is today. The trial and error of finding a unique art style that is fulfilling to the artist as well as the audience is tricky to say the least. Any artist could tell you that finding their artistic voice was a struggle. I appreciate that I get to see his vision blossom into such a polished process.

If you find yourself reminiscing about beloved childhood shows or old video games, I highly suggest you track Crisppyboat down and take a walk down memory lane. I promise, it's worth it. Cute, comforting, warm, and familiar; all attributes to a great style and a great artist. He sells prints of his work on his website, check out his links below!
